Tooth Extraction/ Impaction

HOW IS A TOOTH EXTRACTION PAINLESS?

With our expert Doctors and newer technologies available at G.C. Dental Clinic And Implant Centre, it is very rare that we extract an important functional tooth or any tooth in the aesthetic zone. But, sometimes, even after taking all the efforts, tooth disease can reach a stage where the teeth are not salvageable. In such cases, dental extraction is the only option to prevent further damage to the underlying bone and surrounding gums and teeth. When a tooth cannot be saved, it must be professionally removed through a procedure called tooth extraction.

When Tooth Extraction Is Needed?
- • Grossly decayed tooth or infected teeth which cannot be treated by endodontic therapy.
- • Root stumps or severely damaged teeth in which only roots are left with no crown and which cannot be restored.
- • For the orthodontic/ braces treatment to make spaces for the teeth movement and their alignment.
- • Severely Rotated or Badly positioned teeth.
- • Mobile teeth due to advanced gum disease that makes teeth loose.
- • Partially erupted or impacted wisdom or canine teeth.
Teeth Extraction can be of two types:
Simple Extraction:
Most teeth which are visible in the mouth can be removed by simple extraction. In this procedure the dentist numbs the area around the tooth with local anaesthesia, loosens the tooth and carefully removes it. It takes a few minutes to complete this treatment.
Surgical Extraction:
In complex cases Surgical extractions are done to remove the teeth that are not easily accessible. Such teeth that are difficult to remove must be taken out in pieces. At Signature Smiles the surgical removal of teeth is done by our experienced Oral Surgeons. A surgical extraction may be needed if:
• Teeth that have not fully erupted or still under the gum line
• Teeth with curved roots or unusually large roots
• Teeth that have broken off at the gum line.
Wisdom Tooth Extractions / Impactions
• An Impacted tooth is one that fails to erupt into dental arch within the expected developmental window. Impacted teeth can result in pain, damage to other teeth and other dental problems in such cases it has to be removed by surgically exposing the tooth.
• Impacted teeth usually occurs due to crowding or lack of space in the bone, dense overlying bone, excessive soft tissue or a genetic abnormality. Most often , the cause of impaction is inadequate arch length and space in which to erupt.
• Wisdom tooth or Third Molar are the last set of molars to be erupted in late teen years or even in late adult years are the most commonly impacted tooth and which may cause the discomfort .
• We at our clinic ,provide the pre-operative guidance to explain the procedure in detail to the patient which eases the patient mindset through the procedures. You'll likely need your impacted wisdom tooth pulled if it results in problems such as:
o Pain
o food and debris getting stuck behind the wisdom tooth
o Infection or gum disease (periodontal disease)
o Tooth decay in a partially erupted wisdom tooth
o Damage to a nearby tooth or surrounding bone
o Development of a fluid-filled sac (cyst) around the wisdom tooth
o Complications with orthodontic treatments to straighten other teeth
Impacted wisdom tooth may :
o Grow at an angle toward the next tooth (second molar)
o Grow at an angle toward the back of the mouth
o Grow at a right angle to the other teeth, as if the wisdom tooth is "lying down" within the jawbone
o Grow straight up or down like other teeth but stay trapped within the jawbone
